The starting pattern for this poster was chosen to have nice colors but no extra symmetry in it. It was then treated by different symmetry transformations in order to get the 17 possible Wallpaper Groups.
In principle, many different methods can be applied to create a symmetric pattern out of a non-symmetric one. Here the repetition and mirroring of angles in polar coordinates was chosen to deduce the symmetries according to the Wallpaper Groups.
